The 2010 NYCBL season brought plenty of new players to the Pioneers clubhouse along with the chance of getting back to post-season play. The Pioneers entered the season two years removed from their 2007 championship campaign in which they won 26 games and posted a perfect 6-0 record in the playoffs.
The Pioneers start to the 2010 season did not go as planned for Elmira as a 1-4 start had the coaching staff and players looking to turn things around. After a 5 game winning streak put Elmira two games over .500 it was evident that the team would be able to score runs and at a pace that the NYCBL franchise had never seen.
The 2010 squad set 8 different team records throughout the season as they amassed the club record for wins in a season (27), and wins at home (16). Offensive records set included runs scored (212), RBI (187), and doubles (74).
The 2010 pitching staff was on top of their game during the regular season as they would go to set club high's in 4 different categories. The new records include ERA (2.93), K's (279), saves (14), and BA (.229).
Individual milestones were also set during the season by Pioneer players as Jake Rickenbach set the new mark for runs scored (34) and Ryan Ferguson sets the new mark for times walked (31).
John Colella took the NYCBL by storm during the 2010 season as he appeared in 18 games for Elmira with a 2-1 mark throwing 22.2 innings and allowing just 1 run while striking out 37 batters. Colella also set new team highs for saves (13) and K's/ 9 (1.63).
With the records that this years team has set thus far the players hope that more is right around the corner with the team reaching the 2010 Championship Game this upcoming weekend.
Game 1 is set for Friday, August 6th at 7:00 PM in Amsterdam with game 2 scheduled for Saturday, August 7th a 6:05 PM at Dunn Field and if necessary game 3 to follow after. The Pioneers will also be giving away a weekend vacation to Atlantic City. Tickets for all home playoff games can be purchased in advance from the Pioneers front office.
