The Pioneers a night removed from falling to the Niagara Power looked to rebound against the Yankees of Webster. Elmira came into the night in second place and a half game ahead of Webster. The Pioneers gave the ball to Andrew Foushee for his fifth start of the season.
Foushee would allow the first batter of the game to reach base after a fastball ran too far inside hitting the batter. Foushee got the next batter to swing and miss on a pitch for strike three and Brian Erie gunned down the Webster base runner to complete the double play for the first two outs of the game.
Elmira like Tuesday night would plate two runs in the bottom half of the inning, this time with bases loaded Corey Keller was hit by a pitch allowing Justin Lamborn to score the first run of the game. John Snyder in the very next at bat grounded out to the second basemen which allowed Joey Jacobson to score from third putting the Pioneers on top 2-0.
Eric Kline for Webster pitched into the sixth inning and would allow Elmira to score another run as Mike Cleary singled up the middle plating John Snyder who led the inning off with a walk. The run would chase Kline from the game as he would be replaced by Mike Sandman. Sandman faced just one batter as he retired Jake Rickenbach on a called strike three.
The Pioneers would have another chance to add to their lead in the bottom half of the seventh with Justin Lamborn reaching third base before Corey Keller hit a line drive to the shortstop ending the inning.
Andrew Foushee came back to the mound in the ninth looking for his first complete game of the season. Foushee surrendered a one out single to Evan Wexler giving the Yankees their fourth hit of the night. Justin Lamborn would make the third out ending the game catching a line drive to give Foushee and the Pioneers the victory. Foushee finished the night with nine strikeouts, adding to his league lead which is now at 37. Cleary and Ferguson finished the night with two hits apiece.
The Pioneers move to 11-7 on the season and will head to Alfred tomorrow to face the Thunder at 5 P.M. The Pioneers will then take a break until they return to Dunn Field on July 4th as they host the Geneva Red Wings at 6:05 P.M.
