The Western Divisional Futures team defeated the East by a score of 4-2 Monday Night. The 7 inning game featured Elmira's Mike Cleary, Corey Keller and John Colella. Colella picked up the save throwing 1 inning allowing 2 hits and 0 runs. Keller and Cleary were unable to find their way into the hit column but made nice defensive plays from their positions in the field.
The night cap featured the All-Star game as the East with home field advantage plated 6 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The East All-Stars would rack up 11 runs on the night on 13 hits as they overpowered the West squad which scored 2 runs on 4 hits.
John Snyder and Ryan Ferguson were named starters for the game with Ferguson playing behind the plate and Snyder starting the night in right field before moving to play left. Ryan Ferguson finished the night 0-2 at the plate and John Snyder went 2-3. Snyder also took home some hardware as he was named the Tom Kenney Defensive MVP for his efforts during the game. Tom Murphy of Oneonta took home Offensive MVP honors and John Schwind of Amsterdam took home the All-Star game MVP award.
The Pioneers return to Dunn Field to begin a five game home stand starting Wednesday July 14th. Thursday July 15th is Thirsty Thursday, all drinks are $1. Fantastic Friday, July 16th, there will be a fireworks display presented by the City of Elmira. Spectacular Saturday, July 17th, is Hall of Fame invocation night, when “lucky fan” giveaways include an HDTV, DVD player and the “Allegiant Air weekend vacation” in Orlando.
