The newly expanded 9 team league has each team playing 48 games. This season the league adopted an unbalanced, one division format, with the top four teams making the playoffs. The PGCBL champion will be crowned after winning two rounds of playoffs. Each playoffse ries will be a best of three showdown. "With the addition of the Oneonta Outlaws to the league we did not want to pass up the chance to create numerous rivalry games. We pitted Oneonta against Cooperstown and Little Falls against Amsterdam and Glens Falls against Albany as many times as possible. Fans can easily cheer for their team on the road this year because they play close to home. The players love the shorter bus rides and it helps keep them fresh throughout the summer." “With the Elmira Pioneers leading the league in Friday, Saturday and Sunday home games this year, Nellie and I feel this is a very fan friendly schedule,” stated Don Lewis, co-owner of the Elmira Pioneers. “This is only the begining of many exciting dates to be announced for the summer of 2012 at Dunn Field.” The PGCBL is affiliated with Perfect Game USA, the largest independent scouting service in the country. Last year, more than 250 professional players and 85% of all MLB draft picks, played with PGCBL teams or participated in a Perfect Game USA sponsored event. 01/20/12 Pioneers fans, Nellie Franco-Nichols and Donald Lewis, new owners of the Elmira Pioneers will be in the concourse tonight at First Arena cheering the home town Elmira Jackals Hockey Team to a victory, make sure you swing by the table to meet the owners, and visit with STITCHES!!! The team will be owned by long time baseball operators and current owners, Dan Scaring and Keith Rogers. The team will play a 48 game schedule beginning in June where it has played the last few years, at Damaschke Field. "The teams in the PGCBL have worked with Keith and Dan for years. They watched the development of our league and decided it would be an outstanding fit for their organization. Geographically, it makes sense, they have a great ballpark that fits in with the rest of the PGCBL and it is always beneficial to add an experienced management team to the group.", remarked Kunion. "The Outlaws constantly field a quality ball club. They were champions last year in the NYCBL, both on and off the field. Oneonta is more than ready to step up to the competitive challenges of the PGCBL." Oneonta Outlaws Co Owner and GM Keith Rogers said, "We are excited at the opportunity to join the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League and partner with a first class organization. This move is a natural fit for our organization's baseball/business model. We are now in a tremendous league with other established programs with seasoned operators who share the same desire to run their operations much like professional baseball yet capture the essence of the college game". The Oneonta team joins a group of eight elite collegiate teams in upstate New York. Five teams play in former New York Penn League stadiums, two in facilities that have had in excess of $1,000,000 in renovations and at Doubleday Field adjacent to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The league is affiliated with Perfect Game USA, the largest independent baseball scouting service in the United States. 01/13/12 The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League announced this afternoon that Jeffrey Kunion has been appointed league President effective January 1, 2012. The PGCBL, a collegiate summer league in upstate New York, consists of eight teams and plays a 48 game schedule in June, July and August. Affiliated with Perfect Game USA, the largest independent scouting service in the country, the PGCBL is a developmental league for players preparing for professional careers. In 2011, 96 players playing pro baseball and more than 85% of the players chosen in last year's MLB draft were either members of a PGCBL team or Perfect Game USA showcase. Kunion, who most recently was the principal owner & General Manager of the PGCBL's Elmira Pioneers, has more than 20 years experience in professional baseball. He began his baseball career in the 1980's, working six years in the business office of the New York Mets. He was a partner/owner in three minor league teams: the New Haven Ravens (Eastern League), Mohawk Valley Landsharks (Northeast League) and the Newburgh NightHawks (Northeast League). He was Northeast League President in 1995 & 1996 and spent 15 years as a business consultant or Director of Player Personnel and Bench Coach for multiple teams in the Northeast League, Can Am League, Frontier League and Continental League. "The PGCBL has tremendous potential. We affiliated with Perfect Game USA last year and our clubs got instant access to quality ballplayers who would not come to our teams in previous years. I look forward to helping create the strongest collegiate league in the country.", stated Kunion.
