05/10/12 THE PIONEERS ARE BRINGING SOME CALIFORNIA SUN TO ELMIRA!!!!!
The Pioneers have signed 6' 03" 220 lb. Catcher, Spencer Brann, a Sophmore at UC
Davis College and was born in Memphis, Tenn.
In 2011 he made 10 appearances as a catcher and pinch hit in his first season as a UC
Davis Aggie, starting against San Jose State on Apr. 26. Spencer drove in a game-winning
run in a 2-1 victory. His first career hit was a two-run homer to left field at Stanford on
May 10 and he also had a hit against UC Riverside in the season finale.
Spencer attended San Benito H.S. and graduated in 2010. He earned All-Tri County
Athletic League first team accolades after leading San Benito H.S. to a 21-7 overall record
and a Central Coast Section quarterfinals appearance for the second straight year. He also
played for the Mooresville Racers in Mooresville, N.C. from 2004-2007, winning the United States Specialty Sports Association National Championship in 2005. Spencer was selected to play for the Colorado Rockies scout team.
The Pioneers also signed 5' 09" 195 lb. Infielder, Steven Patterson, a Sophmore
at Delta College.
In 2011 Steven batted a .300 AVG., 32 RBI, 8 2B, 1 3B and 3 HR, not a bad start
to his college game as a Freshman. In 2010 at St. Mary's H.S., he batted a .352
AVG., 36 RBI, 11 2B's, 2 3B's and 6 HR. Steven was voted All-League and 2nd team
All-Big 8.
Steven will be transferring to UC Davis next season and playing with Pioneers
teammate, Spencer Brann for the 2013 season.
"We will be looking for great bats from both Brann and Patterson this season
and welcome them to the Pios family," stated Manager Dan Shwam.
05/09/12 Pioneers Outfielder, James Pjura, was named 3rd Team All-League in the NE-10. James plays for the Pace University Baseball Team.
05/08/12 PIONEERS SIGN FOUR LOCAL PLAYERS, BRINGING MORE DEPTH TO THEIR GROWING ROSTER!!
Pios signed Graeme Zaparzynski, an infielder and Sophmore at Slippery Rock University. Graeme is from Mansfield, PA. and attended Mansfield, H.S. In his freshman year at Slippery Rock, he played in three games, was 1-for-4 with one run and two RBI's. Graeme's first hit of his career was a two-run double vs. Gannon College on April 10, 2011. "We are very pleased to have Graeme on our roster and look to have him play the infield positions this season," stated Manager, Dan Shwam.
Travis Rosenwinkle, is a Catcher and Sophmore at Corning Community College and is from Corning, N.Y. "We look for Travis to be one of our catchers and back up in the infield positions," stated Manager, Dan Shwam.
Corey Hamula of Sullivan County Community College is a Sophmore and plays infield and is one of Elmira's own, born and raised. He attended Elmira Southside, H.S. "Cory is a fine infielder that will see time at all infield postions," stated Manager Dan Shwam.
Kyle Coronel is a Freshman at Binghamton University and is from Brecksville, Ohio. Kyle is an infielder and was a three-year letterwinner at Brecksville-Broadview Heights H.S. in Ohio. He was a pre-season 'Under Armour All-American' his senior year and hit .346 over a four year career with 59 RBI's and 69 runs scored. Kyle set a school record for career doubles (28) and assists (139) and ranked in the program’s top-5 in career RBIs and runs scored. "We look forward to having Kyle at 2nd base and having him play for us this season," stated Manager, Dan Shwam.
