History

Dunn Field is named after Elmiran, Edward Joseph Dunn, the developer/businessman who donated the land to the City of Elmira. Dunn Field is the third ballpark in Elmira since 1888. The first two parks were Maple Avenue Driving Park and Recreation Park. Recreation Park burned down in 1938 and Dunn Field was built and opened on the same spot in 1939.

Opened in 1938. Many great baseball players played their home games on this field during part of their minor league years; including Wade Boggs, Curt Schilling, and Jim Palmer. Former player and MLB Manager Don Zimmer was even married on Dunn Field in 1951.  The Elmira Pioneers has a great tradition not just as an organization and its 110 years of excellence, but as players that have played the great american game that have moved on to the MLB.
